Eleven service members have been infected with the mosquito-borne Zika virus, according to a Pentagon health report. Numerous news organizations also reported that four dependents also have been infected with Zika, which produces significant birth defects. USA Today reported that four soldiers, three airmen, a Marine and three Coast Guard members have contracted Zika. They contracted the disease during trips to Colombia, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, or Brazil. Meanwhile, the Pentagon announced that scientists at the Walter Reed Army Research Institute are working on development of a vaccine for the virus.
