The Army has selected 740 captains for early retirement. The move comes as the service must downsize to reach authorized strength levels. Two panels – the 2015 Officer Separations Board (OSB) and the Enhanced Selective Early Retirement Board (ESERB) – reviewed the service records of more than 4,000 prospective candidates. Service officials have begun notifying those selected for retirement. Selectees then have until Dec. 1 to either retire or separate. Captains now deployed to combat zones or overseas locations will be transferred to sites within the continental U.S., to begin the transition process.
