U.S. and partner-nation aircraft continued to pound positions in Syria and Iraq held by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, the Pentagon reported Dec. 30. Six attacks near Kobani, Syria, targeted ISIL buildings, a tactical unit and a shipping container. Eight other attacks in Iraq hit excavators and fighting positions near Qaim, buildings, vehicles and a “major unit” near Fallujah, a tactical unit near Ramadi, two buildings near Bayji, and tactical vehicles, checkpoints and a tactical unit near Mosul. The missions are part of Operation Inherent Resolve, which is aimed at eliminating ISIL and the threat it poses to the region.
