Senior Pentagon officials and their Russian counterparts reached an agreement Oct. 20 regarding military missions in Syrian air space. Under terms of the memorandum of understanding, the U.S. and Russia will follow specific safety protocols that call for professional airmanship, use of specific communications frequencies, and establishment of a ground-based communication line. The U.S. and Russia did not agree on specific zones of cooperation, or the sharing of information regarding targets or intelligence.
