The Navy and General Dynamics Mission Systems successfully tested the mine-hunting capabilities of the Knifefish unmanned undersea vehicle (UUV) recently, off the coast of Boston. During the tests, Knifefish was pre-programmed to set out and detect several submerged mine-test targets. The vehicle found each one, even though they were placed at different depths. In time, the Navy hopes to deploy Knifefish along with surface vessels as a key component of the anti-mine mission.
