Mark Green, President Trump’s second nominee to serve as Secretary of the Army, has withdrawn his name from consideration. The New York Times reported May 5 that Green, who served on active duty as an Army flight surgeon, dropped his bid to serve as the service’s seniormost civilian leader amid reports that he has been critical of gay and transgender persons. The Times quoted Green as saying that “false and misleading attacks” against him have become too large a distraction for him to serve effectively as secretary.
