The Coast Guard announced plans to homeport two of its new 154-foot, Astoria-class Fast Response Cutters in Astoria, Ore. The yet-to-be named ships would replace aging 110-foot Island-class cutters that now conduct search-and-rescue and other missions within 50 miles of the coastline. The new ships will have increased range and larger crews, and will be capable of operating at higher speeds than the ships they would replace.

* Lincoln Returns to the Fleet
The carrier Abraham Lincoln returned to the fleet May 12. successfully. The Navy expects the Nimitz-class carrier to continue to serve for another 25 years.
