Veterans who wish to schedule audiology (hearing) and optometry (vision) appointments should have an easier time doing so. The Department of Veterans Affairs now will allow eligible veterans to schedule such appointments directly, without first having to get a primary-care referral. The department made the change after a recent successful pilot program at three sites. Before the change, veterans had to try to schedule an appointment and wait as much as several weeks for a clinic representative to contact them.
