An unidentified female has become the first of her gender to complete the Marine Corps’ rigorous Infantry Officer Course. The lieutenant, who requested anonymity, finished the 13-week course at Quantico Marine Corps Base, Va., on Sept. 25. Of the 130 candidates that began the training in July, 88 graduated. The Marine Corps opened infantry-officer training, and all other military occupational specialties, to women in April 2016. She now can command an infantry platoon, and is eligible for further training as a ground intelligence officer. She is headed to Camp Pendleton, Calif., to serve with the 1st Marine Division.
