Louisiana, Texas and Mississippi National Guard units were activated to assist in recovery operations, as flood waters from heavy rains forced thousands of people from their homes. Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards activated 1,340 Guard members, who used 160 high-water vehicles, 44 boats and three helicopters to help victims in 25 parishes (counties). As of March 14, the Louisiana Guard had rescued more than 3,295 people and 316 pets, and distributed more than 12,000 bottles of water. The Guard also issued more than 582,000 sandbags. Texas provided another 61 members, while Mississippi added another 86.
