The Pentagon has issued a reminder of the do’s and don’ts for service members and civilian employees during the ongoing election season, which ends on Election Day – Tuesday, Nov. 8. Very briefly:
• Active-duty service members cannot engage in partisan political activities, or imply that any of their political stances are endorsed by the Defense Department. Service members can donate money, express opinions and attend events as spectators – in or out of uniform.

• Expressing political opinions on social media is OK for service members, as long as such posts make it clear that the opinions they carry do not reflect those of the Defense Department.

• Civilians cannot engage in political activities while at work or in federal buildings.
