Any veterans who had to evacuate their homes due to Hurricanes Harvey and Irma can use any facility operated by the Department of Veterans Affairs. VA Secretary David Shulkin relaxed treatment guidelines Sept. 7, saying that the agency wants to ensure that veterans could continue to receive the treatment they deserve without being encumbered by red tape. Veterans can get any mental-health, homeless-services and any other benefits for which they qualify at any VA medical center, clinic or mobile medical unit. Veterans can contact VA’s Health Resource Center Disaster Hotline at (800) 507-4591 for more information. VA’s web site, www.va.gov, also has links to updates regarding the status of facilities in hurricane-affected areas.
