President Obama has nominated Air Force Gen. John E. Hyten to be the next commander of U.S. Strategic Command. If confirmed by the Senate, Hyten would succeed Navy Adm. Cecil D. Haney, who is retiring. Hyten now serves as commander of Air Force Space Command at Peterson Air Force Base, Colo. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Harvard University, and has served for 35 years.
