The Department of Veterans Affairs has identified a direct connection between eight diseases and consumption of contaminated water at Camp Lejeune Marine Corps Base and New River Marine Corps Air Station, N.C., between Aug. 1, 1953, and Dec. 31, 1981. Persons who were at Lejeune during that time for more than 30 days can get treatment from VA for these maladies:

* Adult leukemia
* Aplastic anemia and other myelodysplastic syndromes
* Bladder cancer
* Kidney cancer
* Multiple myeloma
* Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma
* Parkinson’s disease
