All Marine units soon will be better able to detect intruders. The service recently began fielding the Magnetic Intrusion Detector (MAGID) II, a lightweight and easily concealed device that can detect vehicles and rifle-sized moving targets as they approach. The new device is harder for enemies to detect than its predecessor, and uses less energy as well. It also offers multi-directional ability to detect motion and magnetic disturbance, another new wrinkle.
