The Army has given soldiers a two-week period – spanning from May 10 to May 23 – to apply for the Selective Retention Bonus (SRB) Program. Those who are accepted will receive lump-sum bonuses. Career counselors are advising soldiers in some military occupational specialties, however, that it might be better for them to wait until after the deadline. Most soldiers who would qualify are 11B infantrymen. Those who accept the bonus would receive $16,000 – a $3,000 bonus and a $13,000 “kicker” – in a lump sum. The service also outlined re-enlistment bonuses for soldiers who are not eligible for the SRB. Soldiers are advised to talk to their career counselors for details.
