H.R. McMaster, the Army lieutenant general who now serves as President Trump’s National Security Adviser, met with civilian leaders and U.S. troops during a one-day trip to Pakistan on April 18. He discussed the future of U.S. counter-insurgency efforts with Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and military chief Gen. Qamar Javed Bajwa. However, McMaster did not comment on a recent report that the Trump administration wants to send several thousand more U.S. troops to Afghanistan, to embellish the 8,400 now deployed there.
