The Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) has selected Bell-Boeing to develop the next-generation carrier-onboard-delivery (COD) aircraft. Seapower Magazine reported that the $151 million contract entails adapting the tilt-rotor V-22 Osprey aircraft into the new CMV-22B. The Navy plans to obtain 44 of the new planes, which would replace the C-2A Greyhound, Seapower reported. The service expects to procure delivery of six CMV-22Bs between 2018 and 2021.
