Sailors who wish to use the Navy’s tuition-assistance program to pursue college degrees should find the approval process a little easier. The Navy College Program is updating its My Education Portal. The new wrinkles should speed up the online application process for tuition assistance, and make it more accurate as well. With it, staffers who evaluate applications no longer will have to wait for sailors to provide course and tuition information from the academic institutions they wish to use. Also, any course tuition rates sailors select will be loaded automatically to their web-based tuition assistance vouchers. The new process should significantly improve the application backlog, now sitting at about 500 sailors each day, the Navy said. The process also calls for a manual review of any records that are not approved through the automated process.
