The Navy is urging its top sailors to serve as recruit training commanders during their next shore billets. The official request, put forth in a Feb. 23 message to the fleet, acknowledges that the job requires long hours and is physically demanding. Eligible sailors must pass the most recent physical fitness assessment, including the run. The benefits include:

* $450 per month in Special Duty Assignment Pay
* An additional $250 in annual clothing allowance
* The opportunity to earn a Master Training Specialist Qualification
* The chance to earn up to 15 college credits
