Marines soon will be issued new and better body armor. It will include a combat shirt and something called a Ballistic Base Layer (BBL), each designed to address and mitigate deficiencies in previous body-armor iterations. Designed to be worn underneath body-armor vests, it incorporates a flame-resistant combat shirt with breathable knit fabric and provides greater protection to sleeve- and lower-torso areas, Seapower Magazine reported Nov. 23.
