The Russian carrier Admiral Kuznetsov became the latest vessel to launch combat airstrikes. Seapower Magazine reported that MiG-29 and Su-33 fighters took off from Kuznetzov’s flight deck Nov. 15, striking Syrian rebel targets. One MiG was shot down; the pilot ejected and was rescued. The carrier was deployed in the Mediterranean Sea at the time of the mission. Only the U.S., French and Russian navies have launched airstrikes from carriers in recent years.
