Civilian homicide inspectors in San Diego have determined that Navy instructors were responsible for the death of Seaman James Derek Lovelace in May, CNN reported July 7. They came to their conclusion after watching video of the incident in which Lovelace died. It showed him struggling to stay afloat in a swimming pool, while instructors repeatedly pushed him below the water’s surface. Lovelace was undergoing SEAL training at the time. The Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) also conducted a probe into the incident, but has not yet released a report of its findings.
