U.S. troops who were operating in cooperation with Kurdish fighters against the Islamic State were ordered to remove the Kurdish “YPG” patches they had attached to their uniforms. “Wearing the YPG patches was unauthorized and it was inappropriate – and corrective action has been taken,” Pentagon spokesman Col. Steve Warren stated May 27, Al Jazeera reported. The patches particularly angered Turkey, a strong U.S. ally that harbors a strained relationship with the Kurds.
