Honorably discharged veterans are getting limited online military exchange shopping privileges as of November 11. The Defense Department announced the change Jan. 13, calling it a way to reward those who served their country and generate funds for morale, welfare and recreation (MWR) activities. The privilege will not extend to purchase of uniforms, tobacco or alcohol products.

DoD views it as a win-win in that it is expected to bolster the exchanges’ online retail operations, helping them develop inventory and improve service.
