The U.S. Military Academy has selected Cadet Simone Askew to serve as First Captain of the Corps of Cadets for the upcoming academic year. Askew, of Fairfax, Va., will become the first African-American to serve as the senior-most cadet within the student body’s chain of command. Like her predecessors, Askew is responsible for implementing the class agenda and serving as liaison between the corps of cadets and school administration. “I know Simone and the rest of our incredibly talented leaders within the Class of 2018 will provide exceptional leadership to the Corps of Cadets in the upcoming academic year,” Brig. Gen. Steven W. Gilland, the commandant of cadets, said.
