A former sailor who was wrongly convicted of murder and rape 33 years ago was freed April 7. New DNA tests proved that Keith Allen Harward was telling the truth when he claimed at trial that he did not kill a man in Newport News, Va., and rape his wife, NBC News reported. The tests showed that a shipmate of Harward’s on the carrier Carl Vinson, Jerry Crotty, likely committed the crime. Crotty died in 2006. Harward spent his sentence in a Virginia prison until the state supreme court reversed his sentence.
