Federal Manager's Daily Report

During work on its newly issued Federal Workforce Priorities Report, OPM found certain common characteristics of workplaces places where agency priority goals are being exceeded.

OPM asked agencies to identify the workforce segments most responsible for carrying out agency priority goals under the Government Performance and Results Act and cross-matched them with employee responses to the annual Federal employee Viewpoint Survey. Of the nearly 100 questions on the survey, OPM found statistically valid (more than 90 percent confidence) differences in the most successful settings to four.

Employees in workplaces exceeding their goals were more likely to agree than employees government-wide to agree that:

* senior levels generate high levels of motivation and commitment (18 percent higher);
* they are recognized for good work (18 percent);
* managers promote communication among different work units (15 percent); and
* their immediate supervisor “is committed to a workforce representative of all segments of society” (12 percent).
