Federal Manager's Daily Report

GSA is touting technology now available to agencies to use in their vehicle fleets that can help meet the goals set in an executive order that requires the government to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions.

GSA said that its office of fleet management offers several telematics solutions through both original equipment manufacturers and aftermarket service providers that can help agencies meet the mandates.

The technology includes on-board vehicle diagnostics, cellular technology and GPS systems that collect and transmit data. It said the technology provides insight into fuel consumption and vehicle use patterns and can be used to correct wasteful behaviors such as excessive idling. They also provide data on speed, location and utilization potentially valuable to management, it said.

GSA noted that through a blanket purchase agreement concluded in September and open to all agencies, GSA offers two levels of service, GPS tracking only, and tracking with vehicle diagnostics.
