Microsoft has announced the end of support for its Windows XP operating system, including security updates and technical support, and it has called on its customers to migrate to a newer operating system.

“Without critical Windows XP security updates, your PC may become vulnerable to harmful viruses, spyware, and other malicious software which can steal or damage your business data and information,” Microsoft warns on its website, adding, “Anti-virus software will also not be able to fully protect you once Windows XP itself is unsupported.”

Despite the availability of better and more recent operating systems, including from Microsoft, Windows XP remains widely deployed, including in the federal government.
