OPM could put out soon the first results of the annual Federal Employee Viewpoint Survey, which was conducted in the spring. That’s the largest polling of federal workers on their opinions on a host of workplace issues, covering training, supervision, personal satisfaction and much more. For several years running, results have been trending downward virtually across the board. That has triggered alarms inside and outside the government, as well as an administration push to boost levels of employee engagement, as measured by responses to a set of questions asking about their job satisfaction and enthusiasm. The survey results might be artificially high this year since the polling was taken before the announcement of the two big cybersecurity breaches that have left many employees angry with the government as an employer. OPM has been pushing agencies to make fuller use of the results in their workplace policies and has been breaking the data down into smaller segments for agencies to use in pinpointing problem areas.
