The House Veterans Affairs Committee plans to soon take up recently introduced legislation (HR-1259) affecting employees of the VA, a measure that–like its predecessor that fell short of enactment in the prior Congress–is viewed as a potential precedent for similar policies government-wide. In addition to disciplinary notice and appeals provisions, it also would allow the department to recoup awards and relocation payments already made and reduce retirement benefits of former employees under certain circumstances.
