Notices of Identity Theft Services Coming Soon, OPM Says

OPM has said that notices regarding identity theft protection, credit monitoring and other services related to the breach of security clearance files will be sent to employees who already received notices and an offer of similar free services in the separate breach of federal employee personnel files. The services being offered under the security breach contract are somewhat more extensive–they apply to minor children as well, for example–and will run for three years rather than the 18 months of the personnel files breach services. The notices will include information about how to enroll for the services and will continue going out for a number of weeks. About 3.6 million current and former federal employees are affected by the security clearance files breach, almost all of them also among the 4.2 million affected by the personnel files breach and who would already have received the notices regarding those services.
