New per diem rates for federal travel take effect October 1 with the start of the new fiscal year. For fiscal 2018, there will be about 330 cities with specific rates, down by about a dozen from fiscal 2017; new rates for the most part are either flat or slightly higher. The standard lodging rate for cities that do not have their own specific rates will increase from $91 to $93 a day. The “meals and incidental expense” component for destinations with their own lodgings rates will continue to range from $54 to $74 a day and the standard rate elsewhere will remain $51.
