In clearing the LTC bill (see above) for a vote by the full committee, the panel’s civil service subcommittee linked it to another long-pending issue, correction of retirement misenrollments. The retirement errors correction bill (S-1232) affects an estimated 20,000 people – most of them incorrectly put into the CSRS retirement system rather than the FERS system when hired in the late 1980s. The House has passed a companion bill (HR-416) that has several differences, most significantly in how missed investment opportunities in the Thrift Savings Plan would be made up.
