One of the longest-running federal employment disputes, the suit for back pay for “special rate” federal employees whose raises were improperly capped or denied in the 1982-1988 period, has been nudged ahead yet again. But exactly when any eligible individuals—or their estates, for those who died in the interim—will see any money is uncertain. The latest development is a memo from the Office of Personnel Management to agencies telling them to review their personnel files to identify certain current employees who might be eligible, as well as asking them to help OPM review its files of certain former employees.
