Only about a third of federal employees of the millennial generationbelieve that creativity and innovation are rewarded on their jobs and only a similar share are satisfied with their career advancement opportunities, according to an OPM report. The report breaks out views of millennial employees—defined as those born since 1980 and also called Generation Y–from the Federal Employee Viewpoint Survey taken earlier this year; other data from the recent survey are still to come. Eighty-six percent said that the work they do is important, 80 percent said they can see how their work relates to their agency’s goals and priorities, 61 percent are satisfied with their jobs and 62 percent would recommend their organization as a good place to work. In each case that’s several points below the levels in the workforce overall in the 2013 survey. However, 83 percent said their supervisors treat them with respect and 66 percent said their supervisors support employee development, in both cases several points higher than the overall.
