OPM is now making available electronically several documents it mails regularly, including the "annual mailer," copies of IRS form 1099R, and informational alerts.
To receive the information electronically, retirees must opt in on the Services Online site, www.servicesonline.opm.gov with an e-mail account. If you are unable to access your SOL account because you do not have a password, go to www.servicesonline.opm.gov and select the "Forgot Password" link. Once you receive your password and have access to SOL, you can elect to receive those documents electronically.
OPM notes that the Services Online site is increasingly becoming the preferred method of retirees for contacting the agency, with 3.2 million transactions processed in the last 12 months, a 70 percent increase. However, the service is not universally used; last year almost half of calls made to OPM’s call center could have been made online, it said.
OPM touts the service as environmentally friendly and more efficient.
