The costs of a long-term care (LTC) policy increase gradually as you approach age 60 but “skyrocket” soon thereafter, according to Weiss Ratings, Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. Based on a survey of over 14,000 premium quotes from 20 companies, here is how the curve slopes upward with an annual premium, comprehensive policy:

  • Age 50 = $445

  • Age 55 = $556

  • Age 65 = $1,087

  • Age 70 = $1,700

  • Age 75 = $2,864

  • Age 80 = $4,667

The policies cover nursing home care, community-based care, and home health care; there’s a four-year benefit period, a 60-day waiting period, and a $100 daily benefit.
