Three mariners who were stranded on a Pacific island for three days were rescued April 7, after a P-8A aircraft spotted the word “HELP” they had written large letters on the beach using palm leaves. The sailors were recovered on the island of Fanadik in Micronesia, after their 19-foot skiff capsized in high waves. The P-8A crew, attached to Patrol Squadron 5, was taking part in search-and-rescue efforts when they spotted the marooned sailors. A local boat from another nearby island recovered the three men, who were unharmed, and delivered them to safety.
