The Department of the Air Force will choose the site for the U.S. Space Command headquarters from six sites. Included are Kirtland Air Force Base, New Mexico, Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska, Patrick Air Force Base, Florida, Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado, Port San Antonio, Texas, and Redstone Army Airfield, Alabama. The six were selected from communities in 24 states, after Air Force officials conducted evaluations of each location. The sites each offered suitable conditions for infrastructure capacity, mission and community support, and costs to the Defense Department. The Air Force anticipates making a final decision sometime early next year. In the meantime, Peterson will serve as the provisional headquarters.
