Most Airmen scheduled to deploy in upcoming air and space expeditionary force packages will see their deployment length expand from 90 to 120 days. The change will begin with AEF cycle 5 in September. Those who deploy as part of AEF 1 and 2 should prepare for a 120-day deployment. To help extend tour lengths to 120 days, the entire AEF cycle was adjusted. The new cycle, now 20 months in length, allows for a four-month eligibility window and a 16-month training window. Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. John P. Jumper said he also intends to increase the pool of Airmen eligible for deployment from the current level of 272,000 Airmen.
