The Air Force has implemented some changes in the Weighted Airman Promotion System (WAPS) testing process, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. All WAPS testing has been postponed though May 11. Airmen who wish to be tested before then can elect to do so, as long as a testing center is available. Airmen who already tested cannot retest. Those who cannot test before the May 11 deadline “will be automatically considered for in-system supplemental promotion once they are able to test,” the Air Force Personnel Center said in a press release.
Also, the Air Force Academy moved the graduation date for the class of 2020 to April 18, six weeks earlier than scheduled, in order to comply to CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) and Defense Department guidelines. Unrelated to the COVID-19 outbreak, the Colorado school was beset with two cadet deaths within three days last month. Air Force magazine stated in a report that the deaths are under investigation, and suicide is suspected. The academy has since loosened restrictions on the campus, which has been in a lockdown status since the pandemic emerged.
