Active duty airmen facing extended deployments now can apply for advanced assignments as far as 16 months before the Report Not Later Than Date of the assignment. The change means that airmen can get permanent change of station (PCS) orders as soon as they complete all of the required administrative actions related to their move earlier. This way, they can plan and initiate moves for dependents to their new duty stations before deploying.

“The ability to receive an assignment prior to departing for an extended deployment allows airmen to make decisions that are good for them and their families,” said Lt. Gen. Brian Kelly, Air Force Deputy Chief of Staff for Manpower, Personnel and Services.

Before the policy changed, airmen had to wait until 60 days into their extended deployments before they could learn details about their next assignments. Meanwhile, orders were not published until 120 days before new reporting dates.
