The Air Force Enlisted Village has provided a home to more than 1,500 enlisted widows since 1975, but many potential residents are not aware of it, says AFEV spokesman Ken Hair. Enlisted widows who are 55 years or older and receive retirement benefits may be eligible for the AFEV, he said. Furthermore, low-income Air Force enlisted widows may be eligible for rent subsidy. In addition to its two independent living facilities, Bob Hope Village and Teresa Village, Hair said an Assisted Living Facility would open on the BHV campus in early 2005. The AFEV is located in the Florida panhandle, one mile south of Eglin AFB, near Fort Walton Beach.
