President Trump has nominated Air Force Gen. Tod D. Wolters to serve as Supreme Allied Commander, Europe (SHAPE). Wolters also would become commander of NATO. He now serves as commander of U.S. Air Forces Europe, U.S. Air Forces Africa and Allied Air Command. He also holds the positions of commander, Allied Air Command, and director, Joint Air Power Competence Centre. Wolters’ nomination is pending Senate approval. Assuming he is confirmed, Wolters also would become commander of U.S. European Command. He would succeed Army Gen. Curtis M. Scaparrotti, who is retiring.
