Airmen should do what they can to maintain grooming standards during the physical distancing necessitated by the COVID-19 pandemic, the service stated – even though access to barber shops, hair salons and fitness centers is significantly limited. The service did grant commanders the authority to grant leeway and “adjust standards as needed, while encouraging airmen to maintain grooming and fitness standards to the greatest extent possible.”

Waivers in grooming standards still would not permit any changes in proper uniform wear, duty requirements, or the use of safety and protective equipment, and must not affect readiness. Airmen still must meet shaving requirements.
