Air Force officials now have the option of selecting nonvolunteers for special duty as military training instructors and military training leaders. Previously, only volunteers filled MTI and MTL slots. The change means the positions will be filled similar to other Air Force career fields: Volunteers will be given first consideration and qualified nonvolunteers will be assigned to fill positions when needed. The new assignment process follows a September 2000 decision by the secretary of the Air Force and the Air Force chief of staff to make recruiter duty a selection-based rather than volunteer-based assignment process, said Col. Christopher Miller, director of assignments for the Air Force Personnel Center. For more information about MTI duty, call the Recruit the MTI Team at DSN 473-1016. For MTL duty, call 2nd Air Force operations at DSN 597-1325.
