Following a Nov. 19 accident in which a U.S. service member killed a Japanese citizen, commanders in Okinawa issued a bar on alcohol consumption and purchases. The restriction forbids consumption both at public establishments and at home. “Commanders across Japan will immediately lead mandatory training to address responsible alcohol use, risk management and acceptable behavior,” the directive stated. Every U.S. service member and civilian government employee in Japan will be required to attend these sessions.
