The Army wants uniforms that can help soldiers identify one another in obscured situations, while also preventing enemy elements from detecting them with night-vision gear. Military.com reported May 13 that existing technology is incorporated in anything from small beacons to smartphones. Surveys of soldiers indicate they want a higher level of protection, in the form of Individual Friend or Foe (IFF) capability, Miltary.com wrote. The equipment should be fitted into dismounted soldiers’ uniforms, and allow for identification at long ranges. It also should be small in size and weight, and use as little power as possible.
